This course is for anyone who requires a first aid certificate that meets the most common WorkSafe and industry-specific requirements, including high-risk workplaces. The purpose of our Workplace First Aider course is to develop you to be an effective and confident first aider. This course teaches you simple memorable tools and repeats basic concepts that enhance learning and provide you with a simple action plan that you can apply in an emergency. This is a practical course during which you will develop relevant knowledge and skill sets and apply them in relatable practical first aid scenarios. Our trainers are experienced at facilitating training to diverse groups of learners while developing you individually to be able to confidently manage first aid emergencies you may encounter in your private or work life.

NZQA unit standards and new Zealand First Aid certificate
This course includes assessment against NZQA unit standards:
- 6402 – Provide basic life support (level 2, 2 credits)
- 6401 – Provide first aid (level 2, 1 credit)
- 6400 – Manage first aid in an emergency situation (level 3, 2 credits)
We can register these credits on your NZQA Record of Achievement if you provide us with your NSN (NZQA) number and date of birth. If you do not have an NZQA Record of Achievement we can set this up for you.
This course also grants you the New Zealand First Aid Certificate. You can find out more about this certificate in the First Aid as a Life Skill document, which outlines core compliance requirements for New Zealand first aid training. This Workplace First Aider course is fully compliant with these requirements.

To meet NZQA and Toitū Te Waiora requirements our Workplace First Aider course is a minimum of 12 hours long. You will be surprised how time will fly because we fill this time with relevant and practical knowledge and skill development – no lecturing to a PowerPoint or endless trainer stories in this course!
This course is typically delivered through a combination of self-directed online or paper-based learning plus a practical session. - Apply solid first aid knowledge and skills to first aid emergency situations
- Manage first aid emergencies by yourself and in a team
- Identify resources in your everyday environment that can be used to support effective first aid
- Identifying and managing dangers at the emergency scene to ensure safety for the first aider, patient and bystanders
- Recognising first aid problems
- Seeking appropriate help, including calling 111, Healthline or other medical support services
- Conducting a primary assessment – applying DRSABCD
- Managing choking for adults, children, and infants
- Performing CPR for adults, children, and infants

It includes assessment of NZQA unit standard 6402. It does not include first aid for most trauma or medical conditions or the management of emergency situations. Revalidation First Aid
This course updates and develops your first aid knowledge and skills in a practical and relatable way and revalidates your previous certificate. Depending on your previous certificate, it revalidates unit standards 6402, 6401, and 6400, or unit standards 6402 and 6401. To be eligible your current first aid certificate must be no older than 2 years and 3 months. If you don’t hold a unit standard-based certificate contact us for options.

This course revalidates your previous assessment against NZQA unit standards 6402, 6401, and 6400. It can therefore revalidate a previous Workplace First Aider certificate (or equivalent) or a previous Foundation First Aid certificate (or equivalent).
Depending on your previous certificate, this course also grants you the New Zealand First Aid Revalidation Certificate (if your previous certificate demonstrates assessment or revalidation of NZQA unit standards 6402, 6401, and 6400) or the Foundation First Aid Revalidation Certificate (if your previous certificate demonstrates assessment of revalidation of NZQA unit standards 6402 and 6401). Our First Aid for Rural Environments course overs the most important first aid needs of a rural environments in New Zealand. It will be tailored to your needs and prepare you to effectively manage first aid emergencies you may encounter, whether you live by the ocean, in the mountains, near lakes or rivers, surrounded by forest or farmland.

What this course covers
- Practical first aid skills such as stopping severe bleeding, managing burns, fractures, impalements, and head injuries (topics tailored to your needs)
- Moving a patient
- Performing CPR (adult)
- Identifying, managing, and alleviating patient deterioration
- Managing shock
- First aid equipment needs and identifying resources in your everyday environment that can be used to support effective first aid
- Scenario work (scenarios will be tailored to your needs)
- Special considerations for rural environments (working and living in isolation, difficulties accessing emergency services, remoteness)
- Dealing with first aid emergencies in cold and hot environments
- Getting help

It is designed to give vaccinators the skills, knowledge and confidence required to provide relevant first aid in emergencies that may occur during an immunisation.

Managing anaphylactic reactions to immunisations
Our Vaccinator CPR and Anaphylaxis course is designed to give health professionals administering immunisations the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively manage anaphylactic reactions to an immunisation event. It meets the requirements of the Immunisation Handbook 2025, specifically the resuscitation requirements stipulated in Appendix A4.4. This course covers relevant knowledge and you will learn in practical scenarios simulating a range of moderate and severe reactions to immunisations.

What this course covers
- Adult, child and infant CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), including mouth-to-mouth, mouth-to-mask and bag-to-mask ventilation (one and two person)
- Management of airway obstruction and breathing
- Management of choking and aspiration
- Manual airway opening
- Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Identification and management of anaphylaxis, including:
- Signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis
- Distinguishing anaphylaxis from fainting, anxiety, immunisation stress-related responses (ISRR), breath-holding spells and seizures
- Emergency equipment
- Administration of intramuscular (IM) adrenaline

It meets requirements of the Dental Council Medical Emergencies Practice Standard for dentists, dental and oral specialists who are not performing sedation. This course covers relevant knowledge and you will develop your skill sets in practical scenarios simulating a range of moderate and severe medical emergencies.

- Management of adult collapse
- Management of child collapse
- Management of airway obstruction and breathing
- Management of choking and aspiration
- Manual airway opening, with head tilt, chin lift and jaw thrust
- Oropharyngeal airway suctioning
- Insertion of an oropharyngeal airway
- The safe delivery of oxygen from an oxygen cylinder.
- Adult and child CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), including mouth-to-mouth and bag-to-mask ventilation (one and two person)
- Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Specific responses to medical emergency situations
- Anaphylaxis
- Acute coronary syndrome (unstable angina and myocardial infarction)
- Asthma
- Diabetic emergency
- Epileptic seizure
- Faint (syncope)
- Hypo/Hyperglycaemia
